After several days of not eating or drinking coupled with unusual lethargy, the Bosun sought medical attention at a veterinary clinic when we arrived in Charleston. Unfortunately, he was suffering from advanced kidney failure from which there was no reasonable chance of a satisfactory recovery. He died Saturday afternoon.
His shipmates are bereft and heartbroken. It’s hard to believe how much joy a demanding Cat (he would want the uppercase “C”) could bring. We hope he’s watching chipmunks and red squirrels from a screen porch in Cat heaven.

He was a trooper, and a true credit to bosuns everywhere. May he rest in peace.
